How Uci Welcomes Students From Other Universities

Students from other universities can take classes at UCI through various enrollment programs. At the end of each term, the host campus will automatically send an official transcript to the student's home campus. Students can also request additional transcripts from the host campus if needed. It is important to note that courses and grades from the host campus will not be itemised on the student's home campus transcript; only the total number of transferred credits will be shown.

Cross-Enrollment

The University of California's Cross-Enrollment program allows undergraduates enrolled in any campus of the California Community Colleges, the California State University, or the University of California, to enroll without formal admission in a maximum of one course per academic term at a campus of either of the other systems.

UCI students can download the Application for Cross-Enrollment. However, enrollment in pre-collegiate courses is excluded.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for cross-enrollment, a UCI student must have met the following six requirements:

• Completed at least one term at UCI as a matriculated student
• Enrolled for a minimum of six units for the current term
• Earned a grade point average of 2.0 (grade of C) for work completed
• Paid appropriate full-time tuition and fees at UCI for the current term
• Completed appropriate academic preparation as determined by the host campus
• Has been classified as a California resident for tuition purposes at UCI or has been exempted from nonresident tuition under Regents Policy 3105

Enrollment Conditions

Approval for cross-enrollment is valid for only one term and is subject to space availability, deadlines, registration procedures, and the priorities of the host campus. Students must reapply for each term they wish to cross-enroll.

Students are subject to all administrative procedures of the host campus. Students must process an official drop at the host campus or risk having an unsatisfactory grade recorded on their permanent record.

Academic advising is available only at UCI. Students are urged to secure approval from a UCI academic advisor to ensure the course meets UCI requirements or is transferable.

Evidence of completion of course prerequisites may be required at the time of enrollment (transcript).

Records of credit earned through cross-enrollment are maintained by the host campus. Students must request transcripts be sent to UCI.

Tuition and Fees and Financial Aid

Financial aid is available only through the UCI campus. Only units enrolled at UCI count towards determining financial aid eligibility. Students must be enrolled in 12+ units at UCI to be considered full-time and receive maximum financial aid.

Students will not be charged additional course enrollment fees. However, host campuses may charge an administration fee each term.

Students will have to pay any additional fees required of other students at the host campus (labs, materials, breakage, computer, transcript, etc.).

Students eligible for veterans, rehabilitation, social security, and other federal, state, or county benefits must secure eligibility certification through the UCI campus.

Services while Cross-Enrolled

Health services at the host campus are limited to treatment for emergencies.

Participation in student activities or use of the student union at the host campus is subject to limitations set by the host campus.

Parking on the host campus will be available on the basis of a term fee within campus parking availability or on a daily fee basis.

Information concerning host campus identification card policies will be provided at registration.

Intercampus Visitor Program

The Intercampus Visitor Program is an opportunity for students from other universities to take classes at UCI. The program is designed for qualified undergraduates at the University of California who want to take advantage of educational opportunities at other campuses within the University of California system.

The program allows students to enrol at another campus, known as the host campus, for a single term. An exception to this rule can be made with authorisation from both the home and host campuses. Students can take courses that are not available at their home campus, participate in special programs, or study with distinguished faculty members at the host campus.

To be eligible for the Intercampus Visitor Program, students must meet the following requirements:

• Completed at least one year of residence at their home campus and be a continuing student.
• Maintained a grade point average of 2.0 or above and be in good academic standing.
• Obtained approval from the Dean or Provost, or their designee, of the college or school in which they are enrolled.

The application process for the Intercampus Visitor Program involves:

• Consulting with the home campus academic advisor about the desired courses at the host campus.
• Completing the Intercampus Visitor Program Application Form and paying the $70 non-refundable processing fee.
• Obtaining approval signatures from both the home and host campuses.
• Submitting the application to the Office of the Registrar at the home campus for verification of academic standing.
• Receiving notification from the Registrar at the host campus about registration procedures if the application is approved.

It is important to note that tuition and fees are paid directly to the host campus, and additional fees may apply. Financial aid is handled by the host campus, and students are encouraged to contact their Financial Aid Office for more information.

Transferring Non-UCI Credit

You may have credit for courses taken at another institution transferred to your UCI record. This includes Advanced Placement (AP) credit and International Baccalaureate (IB) credit.

Process

Contact the other institution and request that they send an official transcript to the UCI Office of Admissions. Upon receipt, an admissions counsellor will:

• Review your official transcript
• Determine the number of transferable units
• Post the transferable credit to your academic record and transcript
• Send a copy of your updated records to your school or program at UCI

Transferred Credit on Your UCI Record

Courses and grades from other institutions, including other UC campuses, are not itemized on your UCI transcript. Transferred credit is shown only as a total number of units transferred. Only transferred credit from another UC campus will be computed into your UC grade point average (GPA).

Converting Semester and Quarter Units

Use the following guidelines to convert between semester units and quarter units:

• Semester units multiplied by 1.5 = quarter units
• Quarter units multiplied by 0.667 = semester units

Alternate Enrollment Programs
