The undergraduate programme offers 13 pure and 12 interdisciplinary majors, minors/concentration in all pure majors plus 10 others, various co-curricular, and nine mandatory foundation courses including Critical Thinking. Students are not expected to declare their Major until the middle of the second year. They can choose their Major and Minor from various interdisciplinary options. Ashoka University’s undergraduate B.A./B.Sc. Honours and Honours with Research degree programme spans over three to four years and is designed to expose students to a wide range of perspectives inside and outside the classroom. This allows students ample opportunity to explore courses across various disciplines, engage in extracurricular and co-curricular pursuits, uncover new areas of interest, and alter the course of their academic journey. The programme aligns with the New Education Policy outlined by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2020, reflecting the university’s commitment to modern educational standards.
Students will immerse themselves in nine mandatory Foundation Courses and select their Major by the third semester. Additionally, they have the flexibility to choose Minors/Concentration options. Completion of credits from these courses, along with internships, is necessary for graduation. The majority of courses are assigned 4 credits, whereas co-curricular courses carry 2 credits. Internships can either be of 2 or 4 credits, with a minimum of 2 credits being mandatory for graduation. As part of the programme, students must complete 9 Foundation Courses, which include the mandatory Introduction to Critical Thinking. This course is the principal offering of the Undergraduate Writing Programme (UWP). All students complete ICT in their first year (either in the Monsoon or the Spring semester). The UWP also offers ELT Tutorials, an immersion critical thinking course for non-native English speakers, which are capped at 5 students each.
At the postgraduate level, Ashoka University offers one to two-year MA, MSc, and PhD courses. The Young India Fellowship (YIF), offered as a Postgraduate Diploma in Liberal Studies, is another postgraduate programme. The cohort consists of 100 Fellows who come from diverse academic, professional, socio-economic, and geographical backgrounds. Within a year, they engage with diverse study, research, and practice areas. The programme comprises eight terms of six weeks each, with up to four courses in each term. The Fellowship emphasizes writing, research, and experiential learning—in the form of an 8-month part-time Experiential Learning Module.
