Emergency loans and fees
To be eligible for an Emergency Tuition and Fee loan, a student must be enrolled and must not have received any other form of financial assistance. The loan will cover the cost of tuition and mandatory fees in the student's account, but students will not receive any funds directly into their bank account. The loan does not cover fees such as orientation, dorms, meals, late payments, parking, citations, medical insurance, or personal expenses.
The cost of the loan has an origination fee of 1% of the amount of each emergency tuition and fee loan. This fee will be applied directly to the student’s Emergency Tuition Loan account and will need to be covered by the loan's due date. If a student drops all their courses and receives a 100% refund, the 1% origination fee will still be due.
Students can apply for an Emergency Tuition Loan on ASSIST (Log in to ASSIST > My Finances > Emergency Tuition Loan Request). If any additional charges are added to the student account after the initial loan is entered, the loan will be increased to pay for the balance up to the 12th class day.
Students can make payments online through ASSIST. All payments are handled through the Student Accounting Services. Former students without active credentials can visit: UTRGV Emergency Tuition Loan. Bursar’s Methods of Payment - Pay by Cash, Money Order, or Check.
