If you have a meal plan, you can pay for food at UVA canteens, Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Bento Sushi, The Juice Laundry, and other retail food locations using your student ID card. You can also use your ID card to pay for laundry machines, printers, and copiers.

Your student ID card has an account called Cav Cash, which is administered by the Office of Business Services. This works as a declining balance account—when purchases are made, the balance decreases, and when it reaches zero, purchases will no longer be accepted. You can deposit money into your Cav Cash account at any time, and it will roll over each semester and year. There is a maximum of $1502 in total deposits per semester, and a $2 processing fee is deducted from each deposit. To activate your Cav Cash account, simply make a deposit.

In addition to Cav Cash, there are Dining Dollars, which are included with UVA Dine meal plans. Dining Dollars can also be used to purchase food at retail food locations and are tax-free on-Grounds. You can add additional Dining Dollars to your account at any time through the UVA Dine website. When purchasing food with your ID card, be sure to specify whether you are using Dining Dollars or Cav Cash.

If you lose your student ID card, you should immediately deactivate it online through the Cavalier Card Office to protect your Cav Cash account and other privileges. You can then obtain a replacement ID card at the ID Office on the first floor of Observatory Hill. There is a $25 replacement fee, which may be paid by Cav Cash only.

Paying for textbooks and merchandise at the UVA Bookstore

The University of Virginia offers a Student Charge account to help students pay for textbooks and general merchandise at the UVA Bookstore. Student Charge is a $1300 line of credit connected to your student ID that is interest-free. This means that you can make purchases at the bookstore and pay later. Your Student Charge account number is your student ID number.

To make a purchase with Student Charge, simply present your student ID to the bookstore cashier and specify that you would like to use Student Charge. There is a $1300 limit for UVA Bookstore purchases using Student Charge. This limit includes both textbook and general merchandise purchases. It's important to note that Student Charge cannot be used to buy gift cards.

When you make a purchase using Student Charge, a bill will be sent to your permanent address or made available online under your Student Information System (SIS) account. You can pay your Student Charge bill online through UVAPay using your financial aid, check, or credit card. Alternatively, you can pay it off in person.

In addition to Student Charge, you can also use Cav Cash to pay for textbooks and merchandise at the UVA Bookstore. Cav Cash is a declining balance account on your student ID card, where funds are added and must be available to make a purchase. To use Cav Cash, specify "Cav Cash" to the bookstore cashier and present your student ID. With Cav Cash, no bill is sent; the balance on your account simply decreases.

Paying for printing and copying services
