Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) was founded at Lunken Field in Cincinnati in 1926 as a regional school for pilots and aircraft mechanics. The university was founded by Talton Higbee Embry and John Paul Riddle, who, on December 17, 1925, founded the Embry–Riddle Company at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio. In the spring of 1926, the company opened the Embry–Riddle School of Aviation. Following a merger with the Aviation Corporation (AVCO), the Embry–Riddle flying school was closed in 1930.
