Kutztown University Students: Accessing Office 365

Kutztown University provides its students with a subscription to Microsoft Office 365. This subscription allows students to download a full version of Microsoft Office on up to five different devices, including PCs, Macs, tablets, and smartphones. Additionally, students have access to web-based versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, which can be used directly within a web browser without any installation required. This provides students with a range of tools for creating and editing documents, presentations, and spreadsheets during their time at the university.

How to access Office 365

All current Kutztown University (KU) students, faculty, and staff have access to Microsoft Office 365. This subscription includes the web versions of Microsoft Office and other online Microsoft tools, with no installation required.

To access Office 365 online, go to www.office.com and log in with your KU username and password.

How to Download the Office Desktop Applications:

• Log in to your account on www.office.com.
• Click the "Install apps" button on the right side of the window.
• Choose the Office 365 apps to start the download.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

How to Install Microsoft Office on a PC/Mac:

• Log in to your KU email account.
• Click the App Launcher in the upper-left corner.
• Click the Office 365 link.
• Click the "Install Office" link in the upper-right corner and follow the on-screen instructions.

How to Install Microsoft Office on a Tablet or Smartphone:

• Go to the App Store (for iOS) or Google Play (for Android) and download the free Microsoft Word app.
• When prompted, choose to sign in with a Work account and use your KU email address and password.
• Once logged in, you can access your files on OneDrive and select Office Apps to get other Office programs such as Excel and PowerPoint.

Please note that Office 365 is a subscription-based service. Downloaded versions of Microsoft Office will stop working nine months after a student graduates from the university.

How to download Office 365

You can also download and install the full-featured versions of Office applications (Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) on multiple devices.

Step 1: Log in to your KU account

Go to www.office.com and log in with your KU username and password.

Step 2: Navigate to the installation page

Once logged in, navigate to the installation page. You can do this by clicking the "Install Apps" button on the right side of the window.

Step 3: Start the download

On the installation page, select the Office 365 apps to begin the download. Follow any on-screen instructions.

Step 4: Install the applications

After the download is complete, open the installer file. You may need to go to your Downloads folder to locate it. Double-click on the file and follow the installation instructions.

Step 5: Launch the applications

Once the installation is complete, you can launch the applications. Click the Launchpad icon on your Dock to display all your apps. Click on the Microsoft Word icon (or another Microsoft 365 or Office icon) to launch the application.

• You can install Microsoft 365 on up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 smartphones with your KU account.
• Downloaded versions of Microsoft Office will stop working nine months after a student graduates from the university.
• If you experience any problems with the installation, you can visit the ResNet help desk or contact them online.
• As an alternative to installing Office on your device, you can use the web-based versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote by logging into your Office 365 student email account and clicking the Office 365 button in the upper left corner.

What happens to Office 365 access after graduation

It is important to note that while access to the downloaded versions of Microsoft Office will cease, any files created and saved during the student's subscription period will still be accessible. Students are advised to save their files to the cloud or download copies to their personal devices before their graduation.

What is included in the Office 365 subscription

The Office 365 subscription offered to Kutztown University students includes the following:

• Web-based versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
• The ability to create documents with advanced formatting.
• Automatic saving of documents to the cloud (OneDrive).
• The option to download a copy of the document to a computer or as a PDF.
• Access to other online Microsoft tools, with no installation required.
• The ability to download and install the full-featured versions of Office applications (Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) on multiple devices—up to 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets, and 5 smartphones.

The subscription is available to all current Kutztown University faculty, staff, and students.

How to use Office 365 on a tablet or smartphone

For Android Tablets and Smartphones:

To get started with using Office 365 on an Android device, you will need to be running Android KitKat (4.4x) or above. First, download the Office mobile apps you want from the Google Play Store. Sign in with the Microsoft account you use for Microsoft 365. You can then view or edit files stored in OneDrive. Tap 'Add a place' to select another cloud service or tap 'Browse' to add Google Drive.

To start editing a document, simply tap anywhere on the document. To make edits in a file, touch the 'Show Ribbon' button. To access the familiar Office tabs, tap the Home button.

For iOS Tablets and Smartphones:

For iOS devices, you can set up the Outlook app or set up an Outlook account on the iOS Mail app. You can also set up Microsoft 365 on iOS.

For Other Tablets and Smartphones:

For other tablets and phones, you can set up Microsoft 365 and email. If you are using a Surface Pro tablet, you can install Office and email as you would on a desktop computer. If you are using a Chromebook, you can install the Office mobile apps for Android if you have the Google Play Store, or use Office Online if you have the Google Web Store.
