York University's Intake Dates For International Students

York University is a popular choice for international students, with over 10,000 enrolled from more than 170 countries. The university offers a wide range of programs for international students, with flexible learning options and international exchange and work-study opportunities.

The application process for international students is the same as for other students, and applications are made through the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC). The OUAC has two types of applications: Undergrad 101, for students currently in high school, and Undergrad 105, for international students, mature students, and Canadian students who have already graduated high school.

The deadline for applications is the same for all students, and the university will not review late submissions. The deadline for Fall 2025 enrollment is the 15th of January 2025.

International Baccalaureate students require an IB Diploma point score of 30 or higher

York University does not specify an April or May intake for international students. However, they do provide a general overview of the admission requirements for international students.

In addition to the IB score, York University has the following requirements for international students:

• Grade 12 graduation with a minimum overall average of "B" on Grade 11 and Grade 12 academic courses
• SAT score of 1170 or ACT score of 24 (optional for students enrolled in a recognized accredited US curriculum high school in the United States, Puerto Rico, or Guam)
• Transfer credit granted for final scores of 4 or 5 on Advanced Placement (AP) exams, depending on the program

In addition to the minimum overall average, students are also required to achieve a minimum SAT score of 1170 or an ACT score of 24. These scores are not required for students studying in a recognised accredited US curriculum outside the United States, Puerto Rico, or Guam.

The deadline for applications for Fall 2025 at York University is 16 September 2024. This is the deadline for undergraduate applications for international students, out-of-province high school students, and university/college transfer and mature students.

The deadline for applications for Winter 2025 (January) is 3 February 2025.

The deadline for supplementary applications for Fall 2025 is 5 February 2025.

The deadline for applications for Winter 2025 supplementary applications is 15 February 2025.

York University has its own regulations concerning employment, registration, and health insurance

Employment

Full-time international and exchange students with a valid study permit may be eligible to work on and off-campus without a work permit, provided they meet specific eligibility criteria. International students can work on campus with their study permit if they are full-time students in a degree, diploma, or certificate program. The study permit must be valid and have a condition authorizing the student to work on campus. There is no time limit for on-campus work. To work off-campus, an international student must have a valid study permit with a condition allowing them to work off-campus, be a full-time student, be enrolled at a designated learning institution at the post-secondary level, and be studying in an academic, vocational, or professional training program that leads to a degree, diploma, or certificate that is at least six months in duration.

Registration

International students must provide documentation to the Registrar's Office to verify their eligibility for domestic fees.

Health Insurance

International students and other non-resident students, and their eligible dependents, are covered by the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) once they become registered at York. UHIP is mandatory unless and until the student is approved by Sun Life for an exemption. Students pay their insurance premium to Student Financial Services in addition to their academic fees. The premium cost is based on the length of coverage and the number of dependents. To receive proof of coverage, students must apply to York International at the beginning of each academic year. UHIP covers basic medical costs such as doctor's visits, emergencies, and lab tests. It does not cover prescription medicine, dentist fees, eyeglasses or contact lenses, physiotherapy, massage therapy, psychologists, or therapists. These medical costs are covered through the student's extended health plan, which is administered by their student union.
