Graduate Faculty Membership

Member:

Full Members of the graduate faculty include tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-track faculty with ranks such as Professor, Research Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor. The highest degree in the respective field, usually a PhD, is required, although exceptions may be granted in some cases. To be eligible for Full Membership, faculty members must be actively engaged in research, have a record of peer-reviewed scholarly production in national and international journals and conference proceedings from the last five years, and have prior experience in mentoring graduate students and/or supervising undergraduate research. Full Members can teach graduate courses, serve as major professors, and act as advisory committee members of Master's or Doctoral Thesis Committees.

Associate Member:

Associate Member status is awarded for Adjunct, Visiting, and Clinical Faculty appointments. It includes government, corporate, private, or community representatives, as well as international experts with appropriate qualifications. An Associate Member may hold a terminal degree in a designated area or have contributed significantly to research and scholarship on a national and global scale. If they do not hold a doctoral degree, there must be demonstrable evidence of their experience, knowledge, and capability in the area of intended participation in the graduate program. Associate Members can teach graduate courses and serve as members or co-chairs of graduate students' Advisory Committees.

Special Appointments are reserved for nationally and internationally recognized scholars and authorities whose merits are evident and need not be measured by standard criteria. The department head and College Dean recommend these individuals for special appointments of defined duration and explicit responsibilities.
