Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg (CU-Bloomsburg or Bloomsburg) is a campus of the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, United States. It is one of 14 public universities in the state and is part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). The campus is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, with some degree programs accredited by specialised accreditors.
Bloomsburg University was founded in 1839 as Bloomsburg Academy. In 1856, it was renamed the Bloomsburg Literary Institute. The name became the Bloomsburg Literary Institute and State Normal School in 1869. In May 1866, the Board of Trustees decided to build a new facility and purchased three acres of land at the east end of Main Street on top of a hill. The new building, known as the chapel or Institute Hall, was designed by Henry Carver and was dedicated in April 1867. In 1916, the state of Pennsylvania took control and renamed it the Bloomsburg State Normal School. The name was changed to Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1927, and in 1960, it became Bloomsburg State College.
