Accessing University Of Washington Student Email: A Guide

As a student at the University of Washington, you will need to set up your UW email address ending in @uw.edu or @u.washington.edu. This is important as faculty and staff often only respond to emails from these official addresses. To set up your UW email, you will need to create a UW NetID and password. Setting up your UW email

As a first-year student, you will need to set up your UW email address. Your UW email address will consist of your UW NetID followed by '@uw.edu' or '@u.washington.edu'. Both addresses will be routed to the same account, so you do not need to check emails in two places.

To set up your UW email, you will first need to create a UW NetID. You can do this by going to the UW NetID username retrieval page and clicking "Sign in to verify your identity". You will then need to enter the email you used to apply and your student system key. Once you have done this, you will see your UW NetID displayed at the top of the page.

After creating your UW NetID, it can take up to 24 hours for your account to display the correct information. During this time, you may find that your MyUW content is not correct. If this is the case, please try again after 24 hours have passed. If you still cannot see your application status after this time, you can send an email to help@uw.edu.

Once you have created your UW NetID and your account has been set up, you can activate your UW email. UW offers two cloud-based email services: UW Exchange Online and UW G-Suite. You can follow the instructions to activate your chosen service and review the UW IT Student Guide for helpful information. You can also choose to use UW Gmail, but you will need to manually activate this using the Manage UW Google page on the UW NetID Manage Portal.

UW NetID retrieval

If you are a UW in the High School student, Foster applicant, Cascadia student, or UW employee, you may already have a UW NetID. In this case, you will need to use the link provided to join your existing account to your application, rather than create a new one. First, find the email and student system key you were emailed, then click the button to go to the relevant page. Here, you will need to enter your email and student system key.

If you have forgotten your password, go to the UW NetID password reset page and enter your UW NetID username. You will then need to choose a method to verify your identity.

Please note that it can take up to 24 hours for your newly created account to display the correct information. If you still do not see your application status after this time, send an email to help@uw.edu.

UW Exchange Online

It is important to note that UW Medicine workforce members and clinical students are prohibited from forwarding their UW email to UW Gmail.

UW Gmail
