Housing registration

The housing registration process involves learning about the different academic residential communities, room types, and residence halls on campus. This information will help you make informed decisions during registration. First-year students at the University of Oregon are required to live in the residence halls, and there are various meal plan options to choose from.

For non-freshman students (including returning, transfer, exchange, and visiting students), there may be limited spaces available, and an interest waitlist is typically created. It is beneficial to register early, as priority is often given based on the earliest registration date.

Additionally, roommate browsing and requests usually open in June. You can request a specific person or browse potential roommates based on lifestyle questions and preferences.

If you need to make changes to your housing registration, such as requesting a room change, this can be done through the Housing Portal. Keep in mind that room changes are typically based on availability and may be addressed on a first-come, first-served basis.

For students with specific needs, such as a documented disability, accommodations can be requested as part of the housing assignment process. It is important to carefully review the terms and conditions before finalizing your housing registration.

Roommate requests

At the University of Oregon, roommate browsing and requests open in June. Students will receive more information in May when they are invited to create their roommate profile. Students can request someone they already know or browse roommates based on answers to lifestyle questions in the housing registration.

To make a roommate request, students must first register for housing. All first-year students at the University of Oregon live on campus and must fill out a housing registration. The earlier a student signs up for housing, the more choices they will have when selecting their room.

Once a student has registered for housing, they can log in to their My Housing portal to browse and request roommates. Students will be assigned a room selection date and time based on their registration date and that of their roommate.

Students can also request a roommate who shares their community. Students who live in a community must have a roommate who is also part of that community.

Costs and dining plans

The costs of living on campus at the University of Oregon include room rates and dining plans. The costs depend on the type of room and meal plan selected. For the 2025-26 academic year, students are required to select a dining plan in addition to the room rates.

The average expected price for living on campus at the University of Oregon for the first year is $17,404. This is an average expected price, and the costs can vary depending on the specific room and meal plan chosen. The University of Oregon offers five residential meal plans, and students can choose the one that best suits their needs and preferences. There are 14 unique dining venues on campus, offering a variety of fresh food options to satisfy different cravings and dietary needs.

Students living in Yasui Hall do not have the option to choose one of the other residence hall dining plans. However, they can purchase additional meals using the Ducks Dine On plans.

There is also an initial housing payment of $350, which can be deferred for students who qualify for a waiver of their admission application fee. This deferral moves the payment to the fall term bill, where it may be covered by financial aid or scholarships. To cancel housing registration and receive a full refund of this initial payment, the deadline is June 1.

Compared to the nationwide average, the cost of living on campus at the University of Oregon is higher. The average student nationwide pays $15,282 to stay on campus, while UO students pay $16,863 on average. There has also been a 4.3% cost adjustment every year for the last five years in UO housing and dining costs, compared to a 2.4% nationwide average change.

Room changes

The room swap option is ideal for students who want to exchange spaces with another student in the same hall. To initiate a room swap, students must first talk with the Resident Director (RD) of their building, and only the students involved in the swap need to agree to it. The RD will ask for the assignment change in the housing management system and email the Service Center. While it is not mandatory, it is recommended that other residents in the respective rooms are notified about the change by either the current roommate or staff. After the swap, students may be asked to go to the Service Center to confirm that the keys have been recorded correctly.

There will be a difference in cost for students who swap into different room types. Room buyouts are available by request, but only for Economy Triples. If there is a vacant space in a room due to a roommate leaving, the remaining roommate(s) may request to buy out the additional room space, based on availability and occupancy needs. In the event that a room buyout is approved, no additional roommate would be assigned to the vacant space, and the extra space and furniture in the room will be available for use by the remaining roommate(s).

Room change requests do not carry over from term to term. If a student is unable to change rooms during the current term, they can reapply for a room change during the next term. Spring term room changes are only available through week six.

Non-freshman students (including returning, transfer, exchange, visiting, and American English Institute (AEI) students) starting at the University of Oregon (UO) can register for on-campus housing. Registration for the 2024–25 academic year will begin in mid-December, with notifications sent via email. Students can register at housing.uoregon.edu/myhousing.

Spaces for non-first-time full-time students are expected to be limited, and an interest wait list will be available if capacity is reached. Students who have not been offered a residence hall assignment by 15 August 2024 will be asked if they wish to remain on the wait list.

Non-freshmen can choose to keep their current room or select from any available room, including Yasui Hall. University apartments are also an option for non-freshmen, especially for students with children or those who are married or in a domestic partnership.

The University of Oregon offers various room types, including double rooms, triple rooms, single rooms, and suite-style rooms. When registering for housing, students can indicate their preferences for each room type. There are ten residence halls in total, each with different academic communities, locations, amenities, and academic support.
