Payment plans and eligibility

Georgetown University offers three different payment plans during the fall and spring semesters and two summer semester plans. These plans allow students and parents to pay for a semester's tuition over three or four months. To be eligible, a student must have an account balance of at least $500. Additionally, the student or authorised user must be able to pay the enrolment fee online via eCheck.

Students with an account balance greater than or equal to $500 are eligible to enrol in a monthly payment plan. Students wishing to enrol in one of the interest-bearing plans (i.e. the 33% or 20% plan) after the end of the semester's add/drop period but prior to the last day of plan enrolment will be required to pay a $60 fee.

The tuition and fee schedule reflects one component of a student's Cost of Attendance (COA). Each student's COA is unique to their program of study and includes tuition and fees, housing, food, books and supplies, transportation, personal expenses, and loan fees. The total cost of attendance may be slightly different from the actual cost incurred by any individual student.

Georgetown University requires most students to have health insurance. Eligible students are charged for and required to purchase health insurance unless they complete a waiver proving they have coverage that meets the University's requirements. Students with existing health insurance may waive the fee for the Student Health Insurance Plan online.

Payment security

Georgetown University offers a secure online payment gateway for students and authorised users to pay fees. To access the payment gateway, log in to GU Experience, where you may be prompted to enter your NetID login credentials.

Students and authorised users can elect to enable two-step verification for an added layer of account security. Two-step verification requires the user to present a second credential, such as a verification code, when initiating account changes. The process allows users to add a primary method (phone number, email address or Google Authenticator) for receiving verification codes. Two-step verification is required when creating or making changes to a refund profile.

When using the secure payment gateway, students and authorised users will be presented with a standard payment agreement. At a minimum, users will be required to make a payment for the Payment Plan Fee. After reviewing the agreement, users must click the agreement box and then click 'Continue'. An email confirmation will be sent to the address of the user enrolling in the plan.

Students with an outstanding balance as of the end of the add/drop period are subject to a flat $100 fee, assessed by the Registrar. At the end of each month following the start of classes, any outstanding balance will be subject to a service charge equal to 1.50% of the balance. If a student becomes inactive and has an outstanding balance, they will be sent a final bill. If the account is not settled in full within 30 days of the final bill, the account will be assessed a final month's service charge and referred to a collection agency. A collection agency fee of up to one-third of the value of the debt will be assessed to the account.

Health insurance fees

Georgetown University requires that all full-time students must have health insurance. Eligible students are charged for and required to purchase the Premier Plan unless they already have coverage that meets the University’s requirements. In that case, students can waive the fee for the Student Health Insurance Plan online. The waiver can be completed via Student Health Services by filling out a waiver survey. It can take up to 10 business days for the waiver credit to be posted to the account.

Students who do not already have health insurance will be required to accept the plan offered by Georgetown. All undergraduate students taking 9 or more hours will be assessed the insurance fee once per academic year, typically in the fall term. Eligible students are mandated coverage only once per academic year. Approximately 14,000 students are eligible in the Fall semester, and around 1,000 students become eligible for the first time in the Spring semester.

PhD graduate student assistants have their health insurance premium covered in full. They can also enroll in CareFirst BlueChoice Advantage CDHP through the Georgetown Management System, with money deducted from their stipend to pay for this insurance.

Dental insurance is also available for all Georgetown students, with a charge that will appear on the student's account. Vision insurance is also opt-in and costs $10.98 per month.
