Finding Student Addresses At Binghamton University

where to find student address binghamton university

Students at Binghamton University can receive mail and parcels at their campus address. To receive mail, students are required to have a BU Box number, which is separate from their on-campus PO Box address. Students can update their contact information, including their address, by logging into BU BRAIN and selecting the 'My Information' tab. Mail and parcels that are too large to fit in a student's box will be held at the CMS, and can be collected during window hours upon presentation of a valid BU ID card.

Student address updates

Students at Binghamton University can update their contact information by logging into BU BRAIN and selecting the My Information tab. From there, they can click on the Update Addresses and Phones menu item and select the type of address they are updating (local or Binghamton-area address).

Students can also update their permanent address with the Registrar's Office, which is the address that mail will be forwarded to by Campus Mail Services (CMS) and/or if the University needs to send communication to the student and/or their parents/guardian.

It is important to note that student mail requires a name and BU Box number, and any mail or parcels that are too large to fit in the box will be held at the CMS and can be picked up during regular window hours (Monday-Friday, 7 am-3:30 pm). Students will need to present a valid BU ID card to pick up parcels, and they can also designate another student to pick up a parcel for them, as long as that student presents their own BU ID.

Additionally, students who are no longer registered for classes at Binghamton University will have their mail refused and returned to the sender, and it is their responsibility to update their address with any companies or individuals they do business with.

On-campus PO Box issues

Students at Binghamton University are provided with on-campus PO boxes for receiving mail. Mail sent to students must include the student's name and BU Box number; mail that does not meet these criteria will be returned to the sender.

If you are having issues with your on-campus PO Box, you can contact Residential Life at 607-777-2321.

  • Sharing of Mailboxes: On-campus mailboxes may be shared with other students. Students are expected to be courteous to their box mates. Any problems with box mates should be reported to the housing office.
  • Receiving Packages: Students are encouraged to check their mailboxes at least once a week. Packages that fit in the BU Box are placed directly in the mailbox, and students may or may not receive an email notification. If a package is too large for the BU Box, students will receive a one-time access code and QR code to retrieve the package from a locker kiosk. Students can also download the Luxer One mobile app to skip the kiosk and open the locker directly with their app.
  • Missing Packages: If a package is missing, students must check their mailbox before filing a missing package report. Only electronic requests for missing packages will be accepted.
  • Mail Forwarding: Only USPS mail can be forwarded to a new address if a student changes boxes or moves off-campus. It is the student's responsibility to update their address with any companies or individuals they do business with.
  • Restricted Items: Campus mail does not accept food deliveries from vendors such as Instacart or DoorDash, and will not refrigerate items. Open containers and produce are also not accepted.
  • Address Format: To prevent mail from being returned to the sender, students should ensure that their mail includes the correct amount of postage and is addressed correctly. Mail should include the student's name, BU Box number, and PO Box number.

International student addresses

International students at Binghamton University must provide their home country address unless they have a permanent residence in the US. This address is separate from emergency alert information and is the default address to which most university mailings are sent. Often, this is the student's parent's address.

To update your address, log into BU BRAIN and select the 'My Information' tab. From there, click on the 'Update Addresses and Phones' menu item. Then, select the type of address you are updating and enter the requested information. This is your Binghamton-area address that is off campus, not your on-campus PO Box.

If you are living in on-campus housing during the academic year, you do not need to complete an address update form. The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will automatically update your US residential address based on your housing assignment. If you are living off campus, you must notify ISSS of any changes in your residential address. You can use the US Residential Address Update e-form to inform ISSS of any changes in your living address.

The ISSS is the primary resource for the international community at Binghamton University. The mailing address for ISSS is:

> International Student and Scholar Services, Binghamton University, Box 6000, Binghamton, NY 13902-6000 USA

The ISSS can also be contacted by phone at 1-607-777-2510 or by fax at 1-607-777-4649. Their email, [email protected], is checked each business day, and most inquiries are answered within five business days or less.

Package parcel lockers

Binghamton University offers package parcel lockers as part of its Campus Mail Services. This service is available while the University Union is open. Students will receive a one-time access code and QR code via email, which they can use at the locker kiosk to retrieve their package. The Luxer One mobile app can also be used to skip the kiosk and open the locker directly with the app.

If a package is unclaimed, it will be moved to the mailroom, and the student will receive a new notification to pick up their package during mailroom hours. The code will remain active until the user is notified that the package has been moved.

Each PIN and QR code expires after use or when the package is relocated. Locker doors cannot be reopened with a previously used code. Postage sales are provided free of charge to the University community for personal use, although only cash is accepted as payment.

The Campus Mail Services window is located in the basement of the University Union, directly below The MarketPlace. Students must present a valid BU ID card to pick up a parcel. Expired cards will not be honoured, and no other form of identification will be accepted. If a student wishes to pick up a parcel for a friend, they must present their own BU ID.
