Attendance requirements
Texas State University does not have any mandatory class attendance requirements. However, each faculty member is required to inform students of their course's attendance policy during the first class meeting. Students are responsible for understanding and meeting the attendance requirements for each course they enrol in.
Students who will be absent from class for the observance of a religious holy day are allowed to take an examination or complete an assignment scheduled for that day within a reasonable time after the absence. To do this, they must notify the instructor of each class they will be absent from. Students may obtain notification forms from the Dean of Students' Office and deliver the completed forms personally to the instructor of each class. The instructor will then sign and date the form, acknowledging the notification. If the student cannot deliver the form in person, they must mail it by certified mail with a return receipt requested.

Grading policies

Transcript requirements
Texas State University has partnered with Parchment to securely order, send, and receive official transcripts. Students can access the service by logging in with their NetID. Students sending their transcripts to application services such as AMCAS, LSAC, NCARB, SOPHAS, or AACOMAS will be able to provide application IDs or upload required forms while ordering.
Students can also retrieve an unofficial transcript through Texas State Self-Service. To do so, students must log in to Texas State Self-Service, click on the "Student" tab, then on "Student Records," followed by "Academic Transcript," and finally, "Level & Unofficial Transcript." Once accessed, the unofficial transcript can be saved as a PDF. Students who do not have an active NetID may visit the office to pick up an unofficial transcript in person with photo ID.
Students who have earned a certificate or were only enrolled in courses in Continuing Education will not have a transcript record. They must contact the Office of Distance and Extended Learning to request a record of continuing education courses or replacement certificates.
Students seeking academic records from closed institutions should consult the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to determine if they have obtained copies of student records. As of March 17, 2025, all transcript requests must be made through DiplomaSender.
When placing an order, students and alumni are responsible for providing the correct mailing address and/or email address, ensuring the recipient accepts their chosen method of delivery, and ordering with enough time to meet the recipient's deadline. Electronic transcripts are only considered official when sent directly from Texas State University through Parchment. Printed transcripts are only official if they remain sealed in the envelope from Parchment or Texas State University.
Students must fulfill all obligations to the University before being authorized to release an official transcript. This includes returning all university property and satisfactorily adjusting any debts to the University.
For graduate admissions, students must submit an online application and select the preferred term of enrollment to view the available programs admitting during that term. Students must provide one copy of an up-to-date transcript from each institution from which credit was received. If credit has been granted from an institution other than Texas State University, transcripts must be sent electronically or mailed directly to Graduate Admissions from the institution. Transcripts sent via mail must be sealed in a university envelope with the university registrar's signature on the back.
If any course work is from study abroad, Graduate Admissions will require the transcript if the courses occurred during the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework before receiving a degree. If study abroad coursework is listed on an official U.S. transcript, the need for foreign transcripts may be waived if sufficient information is provided.
Additionally, Texas State University allows students to audit courses. To do so, students must complete an online Audit Request Form found on the Office of the University Registrar's website by the census date for the term. A course taken as an audit will be entered on the student's transcript with a grade of "AU," but the student will not receive credit for the course.

Application fees
Texas State University charges a non-refundable application fee of $75 for domestic students and $90 for international students. This fee must be paid when submitting the application.
Students can apply for a fee waiver or deferral, which are granted based on evidence of financial need. To qualify, applicants must be a United States citizen or permanent resident, or a student identified under Senate Bill 1528, and demonstrate that paying the application fee would cause serious financial hardship. Beginning in Spring 2025, application fees will only be waived for first-time freshmen, transfer, and returning students based on the submission of FAFSA data that indicates Pell Grant eligibility. First-time freshmen may also qualify for a fee deferral by submitting an ACT, SAT, NACAC, or Common App fee waiver. If approved, the deferred application fee will be added to the first-semester bill.
Graduate application fee waivers are also available for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. To qualify, applicants must show proof of financial need based on an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $5,000 or less as found in a submitted FAFSA.
