Accessing grades via the Auburn Family Portal
To access grades via the Auburn Family Portal, parents and families must first log in to the Family Portal with their credentials. In order to check a student's grades, you must be connected to that student. If you are not yet connected to your student, you can follow the visual guide on how to connect to your student. Once you are logged in to the Family Portal, you will see a navy section at the top of the home screen with the Auburn logo in the top left corner and four icons in the top right corner.
Next, click on the graduation cap icon. Once you have done this, you will see all of the information blocks that your student has approved for you to see. There will be a section called "Overall GPA" and you are able to click on that block.
Once you have clicked on the information block, you will see a mid-term and final-grade report. There will not be a by-assignment report, just a report of the student’s overall grade for each class. If granted approval by your student, you will receive notifications for changes to this section at midterm and when final grades are posted. If you are wanting more granular information on your student’s grades by assignment, paper, or test, you can speak with them about this communication preference. There is not an ability for third-parties to access student information on a by-item basis, only the student themselves has access to that information.
In addition, once grades have been posted at the end of the semester or term, they are viewable in Auburn DegreeWorks. To look at your record in Auburn DegreeWorks, head to AUAccess and click on the DegreeWorks icon within the Academic Portals card. You can use the “What If” option on the Audits tab to do an audit using criteria you select.

Viewing grades in Auburn DegreeWorks
To view your grades in Auburn DegreeWorks, you must first log in to AU Access on the Auburn University homepage using your student credentials. Once logged in, navigate to the Academic Portals card and click on the DegreeWorks icon.
On the DegreeWorks page, click on the Audits tab. Here, you will be required to select your degree, catalog term, and major, along with any corresponding minors or concentrations. Ensure that you choose the appropriate options for your academic program.

Understanding the grading system
Auburn University uses a 4.0 grade scale. The grades are as follows: A equals 4.0; B, 3.0; C, 2.0; D, 1.0; and F equals 0.0. Only coursework attempted at Auburn University is used in determining the grade report average and continuation-in-residence requirements.
Grades of S (Satisfactory) and U (Unsatisfactory) may be assigned only to courses approved to be graded S-U, and courses elected under the S-U option. A junior or senior with a minimum overall grade average of 2.5 on at least 20 hours of credit earned at Auburn may elect any course to be graded on the S-U option, except for courses required in the Core Curriculum or for required courses as defined by the student’s curriculum. A total of 12 credits may be earned at the rate of one course per term. Students will receive credit toward a degree for these courses, provided credit is normally accepted in their curricula for these courses.
Students are not permitted to change from S-U grading to conventional grading or vice versa after the fifteenth-class day of the fall and spring terms or the fifth class day of any summer term.
A grade of IP (In Progress) is used by professional programs, specifically Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, and any other degree program designated as a “professional program” by the university, where completion of courses within that program may extend beyond the end of a regular term. Students who are making progress toward completion of their work but have not completed all course requirements may receive the IP grade. The IP grade is not calculated in the GPA until the grade is cleared. An IP grade must become a grade of A, B, C, or D within one year from the end of the term the IP grade was awarded or the IP grade will become an F.
A grade of SA in a particular course may be required for advancement. A grade of SN will give the student appropriate earned credit but will not allow the student to advance in that program. An NR (no grade reported) is assigned systematically when the instructor does not assign a letter grade. Grades of NR should be cleared as soon as the faculty member can submit final grades (within four weeks from the final grade deadline of the previous semester).

Student rights regarding educational records
Auburn University recognises its obligation to exercise discretion in recording and disseminating information about students to ensure that their rights to privacy are maintained. The university will furnish annual notification to students of their rights to inspect and review their educational records.
